Mist sprinkler systems are ideally suited to more vulnerable people such as the elderly who want to live in their homes as long as possible or already live in a care home and might be sensitive to shock and panic easily.It is an ideal solution for schools too where children might benefit from a gentler fire suppression solution. Anyone who is concerned with the potential water damage created by a sprinkler system being activated should consider a mist system as it causes far less property damage and can be widely used in nearly all applications.
Mist uses up to 70% less water than sprinkler systems and so causes less water damage so reinstatement of the property is cheaper and quicker. Mist also requires far less stored water space when space available is at a premium. Mist heads are smaller, better looking, tamper resistant and use smaller pipework so there is a cost saving as they are easier to conceal.
Through specially designed nozzles, mist sprinkler systems distribute smaller droplets at a higher velocity with a large range of droplet sizes fight a fire in many different ways at the same time. The largest droplets penetrate the fire plume and smother the fuel surface stopping flammable gases being created. The medium sized droplets penetrate the plume and evaporate inside the fire creating inert gases. The smaller sized droplets evaporate around the fire cooling the area preventing the fire from spreading. Water steam created inside and outside the fire use up the fire energy and will also help coat the fire fuel surface. This mist technology enables four fire-fighting methods at the same time which will optimise the water usage thus creating a highly efficient, effective system.
